Why do I want to become a JKD Unlimited instructor? by K.S

Why do I want to be a JKD Unlimited Instructor by Kavan Saiki?

Most actions result in 2 types of consequences, the effect of the action upon the actor and the effect of the action upon everyone else. While contemplating about why I would like to become a JKD Unlimited instructor, I found myself reflecting on those 2 types of results. As a JKD Unlimited instructor I will have the opportunity to help improve other people as well as help myself.

By becoming a JKD Unlimited instructor, I will be able to teach Jeet Kune Do Unlimited to other people. The benefits of learning martial arts are numerous. Of course the primary benefit involved in learning the theories and techniques of JKD unlimited is “the ability to be functional in all ranges against one or many, armed or unarmed, uncooperative, aggressive, skillful opponents in a variety of environments” (quote from Burton Richardson). That primary benefit alone can change and improve the lives of JKD Unlimited students, however, there are many additional benefits associated with learning JKD Unlimited. Improved fitness, improved self confidence and a feeling of camaraderie and fellowship are just a few of the other benefits I will be able to offer my students. All of these benefits will contribute to improving my students’ quality of life. I have personally experienced many benefits from learning JKD Unlimited and knowing that I have helped others experience those same benefits is just one of the many results of teaching JKD Unlimited that will personally affect me.

By becoming a JKD Unlimited instructor, I will be able to improve my own practice. While being able to perform a technique represents an understanding of that technique, that understanding is rather narrow. The understanding of the technique will be specific to me and others like me. But what about the others who are not like me and whose attributes differ from mine? If I can develop the ability to adapt a specific technique to a particular student, I will have greatly broadened my understanding of the technique. As an instructor, I would also develop the ability to recognize when a technique will not work for a particular student, and teach them and alternative technique that would allow them to achieve their potential as an effective martial artist. By learning the intricacies of various techniques, intricacies that will allow me to teach my students effectively, I will increase my technical knowledge and become a better martial artist myself. As a JKD Unlimited instructor, I can learn from my students, continue my education and further my personal development as a Jeet Kune Do Unlimited student.

By becoming a Jeet Kune Do Unlimited instructor, I will be able to improve the lives of my students and my own life as well. The ability to share the gift of martial arts, a gift that was shared with me, is a great opportunity. I will enjoy these benefits and sense of fulfillment of watching my students learn and grow as individuals. As a Jeet Kune Do Unlimited instructor, I will continue the teaching tradition of developing students, making them and myself better people, and making the world a better place one student at a time.
