Couple of simple lessons here. 1) Dont think that no one is ever going to fight back 2) Dont take on multiple guys even if you do have a weapon.

Yes, if you can leave, leave. Also, what kind of a place were they coming from? Probably a place to avoid. And note that he dinged some guys pretty good, but they were all able to chase him when he lost the bat.
That said, what kind of craziness was that?

Ok don't start hating on Boston, now!  Other than the obvious fact that the guy should have just kept driving ... the problem with small cities here in the northeast like Boston and Providence is that there is a fine line between the good and bad neighborhoods.  Not sure exactly where this is in Boston, it's hard to tell from the street signs, but for example you could be in the theatre district, nice area, near the hospitals, and go one street over and it's a bad area.

There's TONS of bars and clubs in this area.  That's about all people do up here.  And you can have a nice upscale bar right next to a dive bar.  Trying to find your way around the city full of one-way streets and never-ending construction can be a nightmare, and very easy to find yourself somewhere you don't want to be.  But yeah ... stay in the car.

One day years ago I was driving by Fenway Park where the Red Sox play, just as a home game was getting out.  My wife and I were going to eat a neighboring restaurant.  Some idiot smashed a rock against the passenger side window where my wife was sitting.  I stopped the car and got out and said something expressive, and no less than 20 dudes started rolling towards me.  Back in the car and off I went.

It probably took place somewhere near the Orange Line on the T. Very Happy

No CCW in Massachusetts, but you can carry pepper spray (albeit, only after getting your FID card from the police).  A big can of Fox or Inferno OC spray would have been much more useful in that scenario.

Of course, not getting out of the car in the first place would be better. Rolling Eyes  In this day and age, it is almost guaranteed that any altercation will be filmed by somebody.  This is why it is imperative to follow the laws, avoid confrontations, and adhere to a force continuum.  I tell my students that during a fight, they should pretend that they're being watched by a LEO and 12 jury members.  In the video above, even though the guy was attacked by a group of thugs, he would be legally in the wrong since he got out of the car and challenged them.
