Of course. Me too. So is fr everyone here, I bet...
Just like living is much more then just breathing, but you without breathing there is no life...

So it is with martial arts. Much more then fighting, but without the focus on efficient fighting habilities always present, along side with all the other interesting aspects of it, you can call them maybe holistic activities, not martial arts.

That is also a strange notion I see repeated over and over again (not saying you said it, Marcus): That traditional martial arts give a lot to personal development, peace of mind, personal grow, character improvement, etc, and fighting sports create rude people, violent and full of them.
That is so wrong, and one of the most interesting things about JKDU is that I never trained something so fighting proficiency oriented, so close to fight, so physical and hard and full of effectiveness, and I learned more from Burton in the past 5 years about character, life living qualities, kindness and humility, than in all my past having a lot of so called traditional martial arts masters, senseis, whatever.

i think its because like you say , you do it for real so its not a fantasie anymore.
i beleive most guys have the (fantasie) to fight and beat up somebody , something like that.
When you do it or get close to it as much as possible like you say , most of the time you realese you would not  like it to happen and realese the danger of a fight and that its not a pleasing feeling to hurt an other person( for most people Wink ) .

most of what is call traditonnal martial arts have been developd during peace period so in a sense they are full of fantasies based on how cool it would be to beat somebody in a very stylistic combo of 5 attacks or hitting in all directions 6 guys surrounding you whit cool and very exotic moves.

but techniques even if they are ( simple) i think have to be reapeted and corrected always if the person wants to get better , i think  they have to be choosed carefully to cause i beleive the saying less is more is very true in fighting.

i ask myself not how many techniques i know but rather how much techniques i have mastered ( mastered is % of failure almost inexistant in a technique lets say) cause when you fight or just when you spar hard you understand fast you cant affort much failure.

sooo all that to say that s why i think techniques are very important but i get what you mean that its as much important to use them under not just pretty situations

ok im done Razz later Luis

Paulism and Terry, I would note that Nogueira is one of the greatest grapplers in the world, especially in MMA, and his grappling skill honed through countless hours of sparring and competition is why he had the skill to deliver such strong strikes to Tito. And yes, Tito should have first controlled posture and probably work to stand up.

It is all about developing the skill to use your techniques. Those who don't spar, especially with people outside of their own system, will never understand this.

I agree. That's why I call it "Unlimited"!  The truth is more important than defending a system.
