I've recently read a BJJ book by Eddie Bravo (One of the Machados black belts) "Jiujitsu Unleashed" and while I didn't agree with some things in the book alot of what he said made sense. For instance His guard game is based of his "Rubber Guard" which uses some very unorthodox positions (so does the rest of the material in the book) but when I applied it in isolation sparring I found it really improved my guard game. I haven't used it in full sparring yet because I'm trying to polish my technique a little more, but I'm confident that the material I learned from this book will greatly improve my ground game.  I reccomend this book if nothing else just to broaden your out look on BJJ.

Thanks for the thoughts.  I know Eddie, and he really is a revolutionary thinker for BJJ.  The rubber guard is a great game plan, as it forces the opponent's head down, rather than allowing him to get elevation and throw punches down.  I have been playing with the rubber guard for a little over a year, with the help of Baret Yoshida.  Eddie's book is outstanding, as Scott will tell you.  He has been able to add many elements to his game in just a few weeks.  Aloha!

Yeah those first two half guard sweeps are awesome.  Without any drilling, I was able to use the "plan b" several times in reg. rolling.  It's a very solid technique that works very well.  I'm just taking a few of his techniques to work on every few weeks, there's just too many to take on all at once.  It's funny, after I read his book, every time I see someone in half guard on TV I just start thinking "SWEEP!!!"
