Douglas Adams books are taken from a radio series he wrote.  It's comedy but inbetween the lines he makes some very poignant observations.

Philosopher's would appreciate the "Dish of the Day" bit.  The BBC television series does that part very well.  It about morality.  The characters are at the "Resterant at the End of Universe" were people are wined and dined and for their viewing pleasure they watch the end of the universe.

During dinner they are greeted by the dish of the day which is meglion major cow that wants to be eaten.  The cow (which can speak) goes on to say that he has been "Force feeding himself for many months and he quite tender and juicy by now."

The bit (which is funny) touches on death, cruelty, eating meat, vegetarianism.  Things like that.  It makes a person think.

The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy is a 5 part trilogy.  If don't get the five part trilogy thing, you won't get the books.

C.S. Lewis is known for writing the Chronicles of Narnia but he did so much more.  He was a genius with a talent for languages.  Later in life he became a Christian and started writing christian apologetic (defense/answer) works.  He also wrote poetry and books on literary chriticism.

Some books by Lewis to read "Mere Christianity"  "The Problem of Pain".

He wrote some Sci Fi also.

Lewis is known for taking very difficult subjects and explaining them simply.  His logic and reasoning prowless is unparralled.  If you can get past your presuppositions he is very hard to ague with.
